Honestly? The current world of Pilates socks is kind of the worst.

Not because grip socks are a bad idea. They are very much needed. Anyone who has stood on a reformer carriage in regular socks knows that immediately.
The issue is that most Pilates socks feel like they were designed to check a box.
Grip on the bottom? Yes.
Cute colour? Maybe.
Actually nice to wear? Debatable.
And for something you wear in a practice as intentional as Pilates, that feels strange.
Pilates is all about the details. The pace is slower. The movements are more controlled. You notice everything — how your foot lands on the bar, whether your hips are square, how your clothes move, whether the strap is sitting in the right spot, whether your sock is slowly twisting halfway around your foot.
It is not exactly the time you want to be distracted by something that should have been simple.
So why do so many Pilates socks still feel like an afterthought?
For years, grip socks have been treated as a basic studio requirement. Something you toss into your bag because the studio says you need them. Something functional, but not necessarily beautiful. Something that helps you not slip on the reformer, but often creates a new set of tiny annoyances.
They twist. They bunch. They stretch out. They feel too thin, too stiff, too loud, too childish, or somehow weirdly medical.
Some grip the machine but slide around on your actual foot.
And that is the part that always bothered us.
The grip is on the outside. But the problem is also on the inside.
Most Pilates socks focus on one thing: the grip on the sole.
And to be fair, that matters. You need traction when you are pressing into the footbar, standing on the carriage, holding a plank, or moving through anything that requires balance and control.
But if you have taken enough classes, you know the issue is not just whether your sock grips the reformer.
It is whether your foot feels secure inside the sock.
Because sometimes the bottom grips, but your foot still slides. The fabric shifts. The heel moves. The sock turns slightly during class. You adjust it between exercises and pretend it is not bothering you.
But it is bothering you.
And now, instead of thinking about your breath or your form, you are thinking about your sock.
That should not be happening.
A good Pilates sock should not just grip the equipment. It should feel like it actually belongs on your foot.
Cute is not enough
There are a lot of cute grip socks out there.
Bows. Hearts. Slogans. Smiley faces. Ruffles. Seasonal colours. The kind of socks that look fun in a drawer or make a cute gift.
And honestly, we love a cute detail.
But cute cannot be the whole product.
Pilates is still movement. Your socks still need to perform. They need to stay put. They need to feel good through class. They need to support the way your foot moves instead of becoming one more thing to manage.
A lot of grip socks seem to fall into one of two categories.
They are either practical but not very beautiful, or cute but not quite considered enough for actual studio movement.
We do not think that trade-off should exist.
You should not have to choose between a sock that works and a sock you actually want to wear.
Pilates socks should feel a little more grown up
Pilates has changed.
Studios are beautiful now. People are thoughtful about their routines. They care about the class, but also the ritual around the class — the walk there, the coffee after, the matching set, the tote bag, the feeling of doing something for yourself before the day really begins.
Activewear has evolved. Studio spaces have evolved. Skincare, water bottles, bags, hair clips — everything around the routine has become more considered.
But grip socks still often feel stuck.
Too bright. Too branded. Too novelty. Too basic. Too much like something you bought last minute at the front desk because you forgot yours at home.
There is nothing wrong with fun. There is nothing wrong with playful.
But there should also be room for Pilates socks that feel softer, more elevated, and more wearable.
Something that fits into the same world as your favourite set, your morning coffee, your reformer class, and the quiet little routine that gets you there.
The best studio essentials should not distract you
This is really the whole point.
A good Pilates sock should disappear once class starts.
You should not have to think about whether it is slipping. You should not have to fix the heel. You should not feel the fabric bunching under your toes. You should not be wondering whether your foot is secure when you are already shaking in a hold.
The best essentials do their job quietly.
They help you feel ready. They support the movement. They make the whole experience feel smoother without needing to announce themselves.
That is what we think Pilates socks should be.
Not just “grips on the bottom.”
Not just “cute enough.”
Actually considered for the way people move.
Why we made Before Noon
Before Noon started with a simple thought: Pilates socks could be better.
Not louder. Not gimmickier. Not just another pair with a cute phrase on the bottom.
Better.
Better fit. Better details. Better grip. Better softness. Better studio energy.
We wanted a sock that felt beautiful before class, secure during class, and aligned with the way people actually dress for Pilates now.
Something made for the whole ritual: booking the class, getting dressed, grabbing your coffee, walking into the studio, stepping onto the reformer, and starting your day feeling a little more grounded.
Because Pilates is intentional.
Your socks should be too.
Final thought
The world of Pilates socks is not kind of the worst because no one has made grip socks before.
It is kind of the worst because the category has been treated like a requirement instead of an experience.
A checkbox instead of a ritual.
A grippy bottom instead of a thoughtfully designed studio essential.
Before Noon is here to make the small things better.
One class, one morning, one better pair at a time.
